Racing News Fantastic year for Ashley Barber

Category: HM Racing Supermotard

2007 Season

In 2007 Ashley was taken on as a full team rider, he rode a 2007 Suzuki 450 RMZ, he joined a line up of six Flatoutracing team members who were also riding Suzukis including British Championship runner Shane Parkin, Peter Nis ex GP MX racer who unfortunately crashed at Battice and broke his neck in September, but is making a steady recovery from this serious accident. The other team members included Michelle Disalvo a top runner in the AMA supermoto Championship; it was her first year riding in Europe. Wout and Roel Vanlerberghe which both had an up and down season, where Roel not finishing the championship due to an injured knee. Wout finishing towards the front of his championships. The Start of the season was a testing faze, where the most was to be got out of the bike. HM racing then supplied us with some amazing engine work which was to make the bike as competitive as the other top riders in the group. The newly tuned HM racing engine was a tremendous help in the last three rounds where the competition and opponents became quicker and world class.

Ashley Finished the 2007 Season in both Holland and Belgium Championships at the top of the results, his best results coming towards the end of the season where he poled on very technical tracks, including Spa Franco champs and Lelystad. Where both his poles where followed up by finishing on the podium, the start of the 2007 season went off to a good start, where he was towards the front of both the Holland and Belgium Championship, the mid season unfortunately made the hope of his winning the Championships come to a end, a fortune of bad luck bought him back down the result tables. After a big crash in Boekel in the Holland Championship crashing out of third, he bent the gear selecting shaft which gave him two DNFs in the Holland Championship.

With the end of the season nearing every point counted, the second to last round at lelystad in Holland was time to make the points back up, he qualified first by over half a second, where he picked up a first place and more valuable points to the table, in the Belgium championship the top Five was just out of reach after some amazing results a DNF ruined all his hard work brining him back down to sixth overall in the Championship. In the Belgium Championship he was unable to get pole, with a 2nd on the grid at Florrenes the second round of the championship and a 3rd at Epre Mere in the wet conditions towards the end of the season.

He ended up with some amazing results in the later part of the season, beating many top European and world riders, in the Spa endurance he qualified 1st in front of Sven Bruglemens top motocross rider and Kevin Demarco who finished in 2nd in the Belgium Championship competing in the same Belgium Championship as Ashley.

In Between the Last of the Holland rounds was the Famous Mettet Superbiker where he qualified and joined the elite in the superbiker finals, after getting 2nd in his group behind Marcel Van Drunen and in front of Lee Jones put him through to the finals. In Ashley’s third season brought along with flatout racing 2nd in the Dutch euro Championship, 6th in the Belgium Championship and places in the bestbiker finals at Mettet..

Yippie!

Racing News HMR Dominate at Lydd

Category: HM Racing Supermotard

Report by Husky Sport Team Manager Vaughan McNealy

HMR tuned riders Rob McNealy (Husky Sport Husqvarna) and George Clements (TRM Honda) occupied the top two podium steps in the expert class at the latest round of the Southern Supermoto Championships held at Lydd Raceway over the weekend.

With George taking two wins on Saturday and Rob three wins on Sunday, a clean HMR sweep was only prevented by Rob picking up a puncture with a lap to go whilst leading race one on Saturday. (HMR don’t do tires but if they did we probably wouldn’t get punctures!).

With George and Rob currently placed 4th and 6th respectively in the British Supermoto 450 Championship with one round remaining and confirmation that for the second year running George has been selected to represent Great Britain in the under 21 Supermoto des Nations team, HMR are still providing continued success within Supermoto for engine, suspension and dyno services, along with STM clutches and HMiis products.

Rob Mac winning at Lydd, and below his entry in the Graham Noyce look-alike competition!

Racing News George up to 4th in British Championship

Category: HM Racing Supermotard

2007 So Far by George Clements

“ 2007 has been a bit of a mixed affair so far. We started the season off with an overall win at the SSM opener, qualified for the British Championship S2 Class at 3 Sisters but finished Rd 1 with a disappointing 8th Overall and then went out to Italy for a weeks testing and to get the HM powered Honda really dialed in.

We equaled Max Biaggi’s Supermoto lap record at Latina circuit before the thunderstorm set in and then showed the Italians how to ride Latina in the wet!

We returned with confidence for R2 in the British at Lydd but my health took a turn for the worse with what was a 5-6 week period of hell with a Glandular fever type illness. I managed to end this meeting 9th overall.
This illness played havoc with my fitness but I continued to plug away with another 1st place overall at SSM Bordon and a consistent 6th overall in the British R3 Lydden Hill.

A mid season engine tune up by Steve and Suspension service by Perry saw results improve at British R4 Teeside with my Honda finishing 5th overall and now top Japanese bike in the Championship. On to 3 Sisters British R5 and my confidence had been fully restored with consistent finishes pushing for a podium position and ending up 4th overall. This moves me up to 4th overall in the British Championship S2 class and the top Japanese manufactured bike.

This weekend was a run out at SSM Lydden Hill and the HM powered Honda went from row 5 to 5th place in half a lap and into 2nd place by lap 5.
Clemments
My usual SSM 1st place overall was relinquished after a year to Christian Iddon on the factory Aprillia which wasn’t too shabby but I intend on taking my 1st place trophy back at Lydd in 2 weeks time.

All in all, my season is getting better and better and I am expecting to claim my place in the Supermoto Des Nations Under 21 squad which takes place in Italy at the end of September and end the season at Mettet in October.

Many thanks to my sponsors and the HM team for their engine & suspension work and the IIS for the lightening starts and off road grip".

George Clements TRM Honda CRF450.

In the MRO series George is currently sixth in the SM2 Championship and eighth in the Supermotard Championship. At Ingliston showground Scotland, George qualified on pole and tied for third place overall with Zamitt, who only got the podium place due to his better last race position. George is looking to take 5th place overall in the SM2 championship at this round and claim his first major podium.
